This is the first of what I hope will be a large number of resurrected posts from my VT site (this one chosen as I was inspired to get on with this by cookthebeans’ review of vegan Kota Kinabalu), slightly amended to fit the current format. There may be weird formatting as a result of the transfer, and these reviews are generally shorter with fewer photos.

Liew/Wan Chai, Kota Kinabalu

Roughly in the middle of Kota Kinabalu’s Centrepoint Mall food court (in the basement), this is a nasi campur style place with lots of different vegetarian dishes to add to your plate of rice. A big plate of food works out at about 6RM and there’s a lot of variety provided you turn up early enough. They stop serving food at 6, but many of their dishes are sold out by 3pm. The surroundings are food court so you won’t want to hang around too long…

Food, Liew/Wan Chai, Kota Kinabalu

Nasi campur is the standard dish here. Make you take a little pot of soy sauce and chilli sauce to liven it up. My favourite addition was mock chicken in lemon sauce which was sweet, sharp and spicy. The mock duck with a runny hoi sin style coating was fragrant, and the curry potatoes were mild but nicely cooked. The mango ice drink was refreshing, too.

Address: Centrepoint mall
Directions: Head for the basement, and LC is in the middle of the food court. The large sign says Wan Chai, the small one Liew Chai.
