La Maison du Steak is a French restaurant near Cambridge station. Inside it is rather nice with polished wood, but a little bit rustic so it doesn’t feel like a modern wine bar. It’s popular with people from the nearby offices and also with coach parties, so I recommend ringing ahead to check for a table. The food was very good, if maybe a little expensive, and it had good wine. Staff are efficient, rather than friendly, which probably represents the old France quite well! I have tried to go back twice, but it has been too full. Not a huge choice for vegetarians, but I still like it.

Cheese, La Maison du Steak, Cambridge

I had crispy (breaded and fried) goat cheese, which came with a nice chutney and a large unconventional salad including quail egg, asparagus, sweet corn and radish, plus a bowl of gratin potato. Both excellent.

Burger, La Maison du Steak, Cambridge

My friend had a classic burger which he enjoyed, particularly the bearnaise sauce which is rare here, accompanied by French fries and a small salad.
