Nines is a buffet restaurant in the Cambridge Leisure Park. It does all you can eat from a claimed 200 meal options, mostly Asian (Thai, Chinese, Teppanyaki, Sushi, dim sum – I can feel my fiancée tutting at me for typing that – etc) but with some Mediterranean (pizza, pasta, paella), and quite a few fried frozen products. For dessert there is a selection of mini puddings, a chocolate fountain, and an ice cream bar. Drinks are separate and roughly pub prices.

Food, Nines, Cambridge

Lunch is £8 on weekdays, £9 at weekends; dinner is £15 and £16 respectively; kids (defined as people under 140cm, you must be at least this tall to ride) eat for about a pound over half price. Staff are quite good at letting you get on with it and clearing used plates. It’s actually quite ok as a place to sit and eat – the food can be value for money if you push it, but there aren’t many stand out dishes and they suffer a bit from being under hot lights or on hot plates. With that said we didn’t try any of the freshly barbecued options. I’d be happy to go back, but probably not for a while.

Desserts, Nines, Cambridge

We tried a lot (noodles and rice of different sorts with a few Chinese and Thai dishes, pizza, meats, sushi, desserts) so I won’t go into full detail. In general most of the food is a little bland and often more than a little dry, but the stir fried broccoli was moist and garlicky like I enjoy it, the ice cream station is fun, and it was a revelation to me that longans taste amazing in chocolate fountain form. A warning: do not go near the lemon sauce which tasted like some sort of aspartame and sunset yellow confection.
