LC Vegetarian is one of the many Buddhist vegetarian Chinese restaurants clustered together in the Melaka ‘suburb’ of Bukit Beruang. It is small but always very busy, especially on new and full moon days when many Buddhists forgo meat and fish. There’s a friendly, family atmosphere, though like in many of the Bukit Beruang vegetarian restaurants it’s helpful to have someone who speaks Chinese. There’s a wide choice of dishes, which are broadly good and come at a good price. In this area (and in fact in Malaysia, or maybe even the world!) I do prefer Old Farmosa but LC is still very good.
In the featured image at the top you can see the mixed rice (with vegetables and mock pork), fried noodles (leek and mock meat), kangkung (a leaf similar to spinach in texture but not taste), curry mock fish (very nice), and butter abalone mushrooms (not the absolute best of its type but pretty good, battered sliced mushroom in a chilli, curry leaf and butter sauce).
I have also had the mock duck in a sweet and savoury sauce, which was very good and had a lot of chewiness.
Sweet and sour mock meat with rice was fine, if conventional (and very reasonably priced).
Soup with fungus, mock fish and mock meat was quite light; not really to my taste but fiancée enjoyed it. I have previously enjoyed the asam fish here, too (mock fish in a sour curry sauce).
LC Vegetarian is closed on Mondays (unless it is new or full moon), but open from 10.30-14.45 and from 17.00-22.00 Tuesdays-Sundays.
