Chelvei’s is a roti place selling various breads and curries. The old woman who runs it is very nice, though I can’t understand anything she says! Inside it’s typical mamak, with a range of meat and fish curries in a unit, a few fans, and plastic tables and chairs. The food is OK, but pretty cheap. In the evening they have a mini tandoor, but we haven’t tried that yet.
Thosai (known as dosa in UK) is sour, crispy and fluffy like it should be, and the tomato sauce with it is good. Other sauces not so good. Roti, tucked in at the back of this pic, is fluffy too. Samosas are fine.
Address: Jalan Emas, Bukit Beruang, Melaka
Directions: On the main road downhill in Bukit Beruang, it’s at the (exit only) junction of Jalan Emas and the main road. You can park on the grass and walk, though most locals just check if anything is coming then drive the wrong way!
