Situated in the Melaka Baru hawker centre, Hock vegetarian does a small range of noodle and rice dishes which varies depending on the day. The two woman who serve are very chatty and the guy who cooks is taciturn! If you eat in, it’s the same old food court style. I really like the noodles here, and will definitely go back (probably once a week when I am in Melaka!).

Wan tan mee, Hock, Melaka

I’ve been bought the wan tan mee from here for breakfast a lot – fried thin noodles with mock pork, mock swan, dumpling pastry, sprouts and greens. Very good, especially with hot pickled chilli, as I love the contrast of the soft noodles and the crunchy ‘swan’ and wan tan skin.

Mee laksa, Hock, Melaka

The laksa is really good, slightly milder than most but with a very coconutty flavour. Both RM3.50. The later you arrive in the day, the more likely it is they will have run out of either the daily special or food overall, so breakfast or early lunch recommended

Address: Medan Selera, Jalan Melaka Baru 20, Melaka

Directions: Just off Jalan Batu Berendam, on the left side as you leave town. Look for Italy bakery on the left and use either left then right or left then left to head behind it to find the Medan Selera. Depends whether you see it before or after you miss the turn!
