Double L is a family run dim sum restaurant which opens for breakfast and lunch. It has the standard plastic tables and chairs, and fans to cool you. Staff cook batches of dim sum on steamers at the front and fries at the back, and walk round with big platters you can choose dishes from; you can also order particular dishes.
It’s pretty popular among Chinese locals, reflecting that the food is OK plus pretty good value for money (RM23 for the seven dishes we had plus 2 iced drinks). Easier if you speak Chinese.
The ‘carrot cake’ which is the Asian style radish block chopped up and fried with egg and chilli is a good example of this street food (second review transferred in a row with this dish, oddly). Pao jagung is a steamed bun filled with sweet paste with sweetcorn in, and it’s OK if a bit weird to western palates. Pork pao was described as not bad, and the best pork dish was apparently the pork topped with chilli.
Address: Jalan Delima 2, Melaka
Directions: It’s on the junction of Jalan Delima 2 and the main road through Bukit Beruang, so on the left as you go downhill.
