Coedo Beniaka is a beer from the Kyodo Shoji Koedo Brewery of Japan. That wouldn’t make it unusual, but when you realise it is called Beniaka – or crimson – after the sweet potato it is brewed with, it starts to sound a little strange. It is 7%, so not one to drink a lot of.

When poured, it looked like an ambre and was not quite as dark as a dubbel. It smelled a little hoppy and had a fair amount of fizz. The taste is a little sweet at first, with a light bitter hop flavour next, and not much aftertaste. It doesn’t taste at all of sweet potato, but was ok. I would buy it again, at the right price.
