The Royal Bengal is a curry house on Royston High Street. Quite small inside, it does feel rather cramped in its booths. On the other hand it does have some excellent curry house decor in the lobby, including a holographic picture of a lady with a beer (sadly, it didn’t photograph well). The staff are quite cheeky, and the main man tried to guess the curries we would have – unsuccessfully. The food was alright, but worked out at good value for money. Worth a visit if you fancy curry and are nearby.
We shared a vegetarian set meal for two (£41 inc wine), while sister in law had chicken tikka to start (served with a flourish, with spitting onions everywhere) and a milder than expected lamb bhuna with dry lamb. She thought they were OK. Our starters were samosa and aloo chat – both fine.
Of the main dishes, I enjoyed the vegetable balti most, which was quite sour. Also included were a bland chana masala, an OK garlic vegetables, and a rather nicely fried spinach with onions, plus a vegetable naan which was nicer than the added cheese naan, and pilau rice.
