Moreno’s in Royston was a blast from the past – somewhere I think I first went about 25 years ago. It’s a classic greasy spoon: all day breakfasts, sandwiches, and main meals, served with a cheeky smile and a keen eye on value for money. Of course it’s all wipe clean furniture, but they can’t serve food quickly enough as it is always heaving. We were lucky to arrive as another couple was leaving and sat down to huge plates of above average food for very reasonable prices. You won’t get gourmet, but you will leave satisfied and unable to eat for quite a long time.

Veggie breakfast, Moreno’s, Royston

I had the veggie set breakfast – beans, tomatoes, big hash browns (with a hint of onion), mushrooms, egg and a fried slice. I also added a portion of bubble, because I remembered it being good, and it was. Massive and tasty, and they even have a coffee machine now, so that was good too.

Mixed grill, Moreno’s, Royston

Fiancee had mixed grill, which was chips, two big pork sausages, a burger, bacon, tomatoes and two eggs. She thought it was all good. Total cost including a hot chocolate and a coffee was £15. Bargain, as I didn’t have to eat for 12 hours!
