About 7 minutes’ walk from the night market, there is a bright gold clock tower which acts as a roundabout. It’s quite over the top, perhaps as it was built to celebrate the King of Thailand’s 80th birthday.
We happened to be nearby at 8pm, and it became lit in various colours to a traditional soundtrack for around 10 minutes. Research suggests it does this every evening at 7, 8, and 9. Settle in one of the nearby bars and enjoy the free show.
Address: Thanon Baanpa Pragarn Road, 57000 Chiang Rai
Directions: Turn right out of the night market, walk to the next major junction and turn left. It’s visible in the middle of the road about 300m away.
