Bakery Nhu Lan is a hawker centre near the Bitexco Financial Tower. I think every stall there had banh mi of some sort, plus there was a lot of pork, duck, beef, pho, and rice dishes, and a small grocery store focused on bread and cold cuts. Staff didn’t seem to speak any English, but some spoke Chinese, including the owner who also works the till. Despite that, we both got good meals and drinks. The ambience is classic hawker centre, with plenty of noise and bustle. The price was a bit higher than this type of food normally was, but it is right opposite a financial centre and tourist hotspot.
Egg banh mi made specially for me was very good – a warm baguette with omelette, chilli sauce, pickled veg, onions and coriander.
Pork and rice was described as very good too, but not as good as the duck, and the sauce the duck came with. Fresh pomelo and passion fruit juice were enjoyable, with the former being unsweetened and the latter slightly sugared.
