This place doesn’t actually have a name, but all the locals know it. At 313 Tan Phuoc at the end of the district 11 market, you’ll see a load of people sitting drinking coffee. This place serves ‘sock’ coffee, which is made by adding coffee grounds to a mesh net which looks like a sock and pouring water through it. This is then served over condensed milk, and ice if you like.
We (or again more accurately, my wife) chatted with the very friendly owner who emigrated from Guangzhou 46 years ago and has run the shop ever since. He has recently been asked to move into the centre to provide a spectacle for tourists but is resisting this; his son might do so, however. Sitting in the shop, you feel like you’re in someone’s home, because you are! At only 10k VND for delicious coffee plus free green tea, we really enjoyed spending time here.
