Sri Tasik Utama is a mamak restaurant, a 24 hour canteen selling Malay and Indian Muslim food. It’s a fairly bare place, where you go in, eat inexpensive food and get out. It was the only place open near our hotel when we got to Johor, and also reasonably likely to be able to do me a veggie dish. Staff were fine, though needed to speak Malay. Food was alright, as expected. I’d be happy to go back, as two big meals and drinks were RM16.

Roti cheese with dhal was a pretty good example. The bread was sufficiently cheesy, and while the dhal was a bit dull, I was hungry enough to get a second – and even though I forgot to ask for no sugar with the second, it was still tolerable.

Fried noodles with egg and fried chicken was described as alright, even though the chicken was a bit dry.
