Lavender Cafe is attached to (and shares owners with) the Raul Speek gallery. It does coffee, tea and cakes and pastries, plus a seasonal range of sandwiches. We opted to eat in the beautiful garden so we could look at some of the sculptures. The owners are very friendly, and we had a good chat with Mr Speek who had noticed my Keith Haring tattoo – it turns out that he had met a number of the Haring-Basquiat-Warhol crowd when touring as part of a Cuban art delegation.
We only had a snack which was quite nice, but I would be happy to try a sandwich there in future. We had coffee, elderflower presse, and a scone. The last came with jam and freshly whipped cream, and was tasty – I honestly find misshapenness is often an indicator of how crunchy and fluffy a scone will be, so don’t knock it due to its shape!
