The Gardenia, also known as Gardenia’s or Gardi’s, is a long established Greek restaurant near Market Square in Cambridge. It had probably been 20 years since I last visited, but we gave it a go. It hasn’t changed much, still selling various kebabs, burgers and chippy specials, still with a good vegetarian selection.

We sat upstairs, rather than takeaway, and it’s a bit cramped but comfortable enough, with Greek scenes on the walls. The staff aren’t noticeably friendly, but were efficient. Our food was good, very filling and tasty.

Halloumi, The Gardenia, Cambridge

I had a halloumi kebab with chips – lots of halloumi in a pita, served with chilli sauce and tzatziki on the side. Delicious. Wife had chicken souvlaki kebab, which she thought was well spiced, as were chicken wings. Not hot, but tasted good. Chips were nice too.
