The White Swan on Mill Road is a rugby pub. It’s a good place to watch a game, and you get a great atmosphere. However we went on a non-rugby day to grab a bite to eat before we caught the train from the nearby station. It was almost empty, so we got the comfiest chairs in the place, though in the summer it is nice outside too. The staff were brusque but not unpleasant. However the food was awful.

Potato, The White Swan, Cambridge

I had the world’s driest jacket potato, with cheese and beans, and a side salad. Wife had rump steak, which managed to be medium well in part and pink in part. It came with terrible chips (I approved of them clearly being cut fresh from potatoes, but I guess fried in too cold oil), bland mushrooms, very greasy onion rings and a salad. It also had a wine gravy which was too sour.

On another table we saw someone’s fish being so crunchy and dry they could pick it up and snap it like a breadstick – they weren’t amused. Go here for a Guinness and a rugby match (it’s got a very good vibe, honest), but avoid eating.
