We had often ordered delivery food from this restaurant, but never actually visited, despite the fact it is quite close to my office. It’s an Indian place, from the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, and it turns out they have two outlets. We went to the one at KL Trillion; the other is at Masjid Jamek.
It’s not much to look at on the inside, but neither is it unpleasant. Staff were also firmly in the middle ground too. So why the high score? Put simply, the food is superb.
Wife had a prawn biryani, in which the rice was perfectly cooked and spiced, and the prawns were fresh. Full of flavour, with a great texture, she couldn’t think of a way to improve it.
The starter of vegetable Manchuria is the best example of this I have ever tried, sadly including my own! Bringing in elements of Chinese cuisine such as soy sauce and spring onions to the curry, I have tried cauliflower, broccoli, and mixed vegetable versions before. This take is actually more like vegetable mini bhajis rather than straight vegetables, coated in a sweet and savoury sauce which was very spicy, full of pungent onion, and had a slightly sticky, bouncy texture. This may be my favourite curry dish, as I am struggling to think of another I like more.
We also tried a vegetable kali mirchi. This was a mild, but coconutty, sweet, and very slightly sour curry topped with the black pepper which gives it the name. Good contrast with the punchy starter, and the pepper made it more interesting.
The palak paneer was another top drawer dish. Rich, savoury, and packed with spinach and garlic, it was probably the best one of these we’d had too. A top tip from us – we subsequently had the plain spinach curry without cheese which was half the price and honestly tasted as good.
Cheese naan was thin and had a reasonably cheesy flavour. It wasn’t up to the high standard, but it was still good, especially when covered in spinach curry.
My Biryani House is very highly recommended, therefore, and if you can’t be bothered to head there then do enjoy the delivery option. In case you are worried by my enthusiasm, I stress that this is a totally independent review! I also just noticed that the logo on the electronic order memory card near the spinach is spelled differently from that on the outside. Not relevant, but strange.
