This Australian-run biryani and chai cafe is in the middle of expanding, in two ways. Right now, it’s a single shop lot, in between the Kampung Kling Mosque and the Sri Poyyatha Vinayaga Moorthy Temple. It’s going to take over the shop lot next door, and to expand on its rather basic menu.

On that topic, the food options were chicken, lamb or vegetable biryani…and that’s it, unless you order a day in advance and you can have chicken, lamb or mackerel curry bun (6 rolls baked together around a bowl of curry). However, the owner was planning to start selling cakes, and that should have begun by now.

Both our biryanis had well spiced rice accompanied by an ok dhal and a potato curry, a decent mint and coriander sauce, and a cucumber and carrot raitha. The vegetarian one (which in theory changes daily) came with a plain and mild (yet tasty) cabbage dish, and my wife thought her chicken curry was good.

Their chai tasted exactly like the biryani, which was a little weirder than it should have been (given they use the same spices), and their peach and rose teas were pleasant enough without being interesting.

Positive messages, LōuKót, Melaka

As a place to grab a bite to eat, LōuKót hit the spot. The food was ok, and its small, cosy interior with friendly staff made it a nice place to spend time. However, the limited menu means it’s not somewhere you’d go repeatedly for now. That said, if you want biryani in a trendy looking place in the middle of town, it’s good value for money.
