This is another restaurant owned by friends, so I won’t give it a score. In fact, it’s the new upmarket option from the people behind Eggxtra and Eggxcite (the latter is in my queue, but I seem to have lost the photos). Those are cheery breakfast/casual dining places, so what about Casa 68?

Interior, Casa 68, Melaka

Well, it’s been decorated with a modern look, with mostly bare green walls and exposed ducts, but with lots of plants. While not as aimed at families as their other offerings, it’s still very pleasant. Staff were new when we visited and still learning the style of the place so a little shy, but were good enough. It’s just off the inland end of Jonker Walk, next to the fire station.

Puri, Casa 68, Melaka

The restaurant serves sharing food, with its large plates being mostly Malaysian or Asian with a twist, and its small plates casting the net a bit wider and having vegetarian options. We had several of the small plates, starting with the puri fruit salad. These were unusual, but in a good way – lots of tangy sweet flavour, with spices coming through too.

Goulash, Casa 68, Melaka

The truffle goulash was delicious and rich, with a lightly savoury aftertaste. Our only complaint with this is that it could have done with more bread, or the option to order bread on the side instead of rice.

Buns, Casa 68, Melaka

Cauliflower buns had a real range of texture, with light tempura cauliflower, apple, cucumber, and mayo, plus a dusting of spice and crushed nuts. The cucumber isn’t to my taste, but the rest was. Another good dish.

Chicken, Casa 68, Melaka

I obviously didn’t try the tandoori chicken, but I’m told it was very tender and tasted good. To me it looked more like tandoori chicken masala, as it seemed to have more of a sauce on it, but that probably keeps it moist.

Pannacotta, Casa 68, Melaka

The pandan pannacotta with gula Melaka was a bit firm, but the flavours were good, and it looks stunning. The drinks are also well done. I had a tasty lemongrass and sour plum cooler.

Drink, Casa 68, Melaka

Overall, we really enjoyed the food, and it’s a nice place, if perhaps a little expensive. However, I might be biased on this one – feel free to let me know your thoughts. The exterior is still lacking some branding, so you might miss it – check the photo below. If the parking outside is full you can park behind the gym opposite.
